{Tunes} on Tuesday Featuring: The Avett Brothers

12.20.2011

I just heard about this group while I watched the CMT Musician of the Year Awards on DVR at my parent's house. I liked their style, so I'm excited to check out some more of their stuff and see if I really love them...
Know of any new musicians I should check out?

I love them SO SO SO MUCH! You should check out The Ballad of Love and Hate, November Blue and Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise, Shame, these are songs all by them. But really anything by them is awesome.

Someone I just discovered is The Tallest Man on Earth. He is very folky, like Bob Dylan. My favorite song is Tangle In This Trampled Wheat. I heard this song, fell in love and therefore bought the whole cd The Wild Hunt. Here's a link to the song :

Just close your eyes, and listen. PLUS he's swedish. HA.

Do you know of Angus & Julia Stone? They have a cool version of You're The One That I Want

Anne & Pete Sibley are a cool couple that sing bluegrass and such. She has a beautiful voice but I'm not sure how you would find their music. I think they are on iTunes and probably on Youtube. I heard them in Jackson Hole, WY.

Cold War Kids are pretty cool and so are Fleet Foxes. They had a great album this year. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are awesome as well. Foxy Shazam.

DEAD MAN'S BONES. OMG. Ryan Gosling's band. I could DIE. I really could. I'd tell you to just go ahead and buy their whole album but if you really want to try them out youtube them. My favorite song is My Body's A Zombie For You. I can't even describe their music. The story is that Ryan and Zach have this fascination for ghost stories and things like that so all their songs have this creepy, haunting quality to them. They're also accompanied by the Silverlake Conservatory of Music Children's Choir which is really cool. AGHH I LOVE THEM!!!

I don't know if you watched The Voice but the runner up, Dia Frampton is preatty cool and she made a really cool version of Heartless by Kanye West and Losing My  Religion by REM.

Have you ever heard of Fun.? Probably cause the lead singer is from Arizona. He was also in The Format. They're really really cool and their songs are masterpieces really.

The Head and The Heart is a band from Seattle I think. I'm not too familiar with them but from what I've heard they have a really cool sound.

Ok I know you like spanish so I recommend old Shakira and this really cool band called Mana. They are awesome. If you want to know which songs are cool just tell me and I'll send you a list.

Matisyahu is this American reggae and alternative rock musician who is really cool because he used to be a Hassidic Jew. Also because he just rocks. I recommend One Day and We Will Walk to start with but all his songs are excellent.

Have you ever heard of Mika?? Probably because he's British and amazing but just thought to throw that out there.

So you know in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 when Harry and Hermione dance together? Well the song is called O Children by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. That's the only song I've heard from them but that along is worth enough to check them out. I love Harry Potter.

Have you seen Dan In Real Life? Probably but I highly recommend checking out the soundtrack. All the songs were written and performed by Sondre Lerche (I think) and they are just splendid. Especially check out My Hands Are Shaking. LOVE.

And that's about it. Haha sorry for the overload but I got so excited when you posted the Avett Brothers because they are one of my favorite bands! Well I hope you didn't know at least one of these bands otherwise that was a complete waste of time. ENJOY!!

My fave Spanish group is Amaral so if you don't mind it's in Spanish maybe you should give it a try. The next album just came out, but I can tell you some of my faves. It's rock, pop, folk. And her voice is really cool.

They all look exactly the same!  O.o  Great song, though.  I love the cello (violin maybe?) and the harmony.

The Avett Brothers are my very favorite band on the face of the planet. I think you'll find yourself loving them too, if you give them the chance. They've been making albums for ten years now, and have stayed true to themselves the whole way. Their song lyrics are so heartfelt, tender, beautiful, and honest. Enjoy this band. This sounds cheesy, but they changed my life. If I were you, I'd start out listening to their record from 2007, Emotionalism. It has a little bit of everything that they're about.

Holy moley! Thanks for this link! I am a big fan of Ray LaMontagne, and this is right up my alley. Now I have a new CD to get for the hubby this week...

Ashley, the Avett Brothers are AMAZING! They are my favorite. I saw them in concert and they are equally as good live. The best part is their cellist, Joe Kwon. He rocks out hardcore and sings along to every song even though he's not mic'd up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL-qsqQmUC8 He's so awesome!

Some of my favorite songs are January Wedding, Murder in the City, Love like the Movies, The Once and Future Carpenter and The Prettiest Thing.

Holy cow! Fantastic comment! Haha thanks :) I really can't wait to check them all out! I'd never heard of any of them other than fleet foxes (LOvE) and shakira (had her cd when she was 14 yrs old)

I discovered The Avett Brothers while drinking coffee and "decompressing" about a year ago. They sooth my soul and that's how I judge a musician....

I think you would also like The Decemberists. Colin Meloy, lead vocalist, has an amazing voice. And like The Avetts, there is something fluid and calming that only few musicians effortlessly pull off.

I hope you enjoy and please post anything else you find. I love finding music like this!
